Claddagh Tattoo

The Claddagh is an Irish symbol of love and friendship. Typically, the claddagh consists of two hands, a heart and a crown. The two hands represent friendship, the crown loyalty, and the heart, of course, love. The origin of the modem icon engagement can actually go back some 400 years to a small fishing village with the same name in the Galway Bay region of Ireland. It may have originated as an identifiable mark on the sails of the boats there,

But it finally came to the most regularly used as an engagement ring, perhaps invented in 1689 by a local jeweler Galway, who had been captured by pirates, but returned safely to his true love gone after five years. Alternatively, the Claddagh ring have been brought from the Crusades of a young man who had been captured by the Saracens. While the origin of this symbol is probably lost time, the meaning is clear. It is a promise of friendship, loyalty and love and a message that the owner is “spoken for?
